Kierra and Keziah

Kierra flips and turns the cards between her fingers, although the deck is larger than her hands. Thoughtfully she lies them out flat and open on the bed between them. She gazes over their detailed art before looking into Keziah's eyes, bright with anticipation. Across the bed, Keziah sits crossed legged, a twitchy shadow to Kierra's stillness. Her eyes, one green, one violet, are wide and vivid in the dim light. Keziah trails her fingertips over the reading, "It's up to you now my sister."

Keziah lifts the pale hessian bag tucked between her feet. Her left wrist a candy stripe of plastic bracelets, pushes through the drawstring and her fingers feel the familiar shapes moving under her touch. Until they come and she slides 3 stone tablets from the mouth of the bag and wriggles them in her palm until they settle. She stares intently at the branding that scars them. "She is too far, mother."

Kierra holds out her hands, palms down over the spread before her. "She is distant", her eyes blink, "but you must try to reach her".

Keziah screws up her eyes as Kierra leans forward and kisses her, slowly, then blows out the candle.
